Nationwide recall campaigns for salami sticks due to salmonella germs

Comprehensive product recall started due to possible contamination with Salmonella
After a salmonella contamination was noticed during self-checks, Mar-Ko Fleischwaren GmbH & Co.KG called back a wide range of salami sticks "for reasons of preventive consumer protection". The affected products were sold at Edeka, Marktkauf, Netto Marken-Discount and Norma, among others.

"As part of a self-check, Salmonella were found that could cause health problems," said the manufacturer. A comprehensive recall campaign was therefore initiated for the different versions of the salami sticks. The goods were immediately removed from the trade, customers who have purchased the corresponding products can return them for a refund of the purchase price, according to Mar-Ko Fleischwaren GmbH & Co.KG.

Risk of salmonella infection
If Salmonella is ingested with food, the bacteria can trigger a so-called Salmonellosis, which is particularly noticeable with symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. The infectious disease is usually over after a few days, but it can lead to complications in immunocompromised people and small children, which can be life-threatening.

In view of the health risk associated with the intake of Salmonella, the manufacturer has initiated a recall for all of the following products in the interests of preventive consumer protection:

  • "Salami-Sticks Classic" in a 100g package and labeled "Every Day" with the best before dates September 6th, 2017 and September 7th, 2017. The product was offered by Bünting.
  • "Salami Sticks Classic" in a 100g package and the designation "GUT & GÜNSTIG" with the best-before dates from September 6th, 2017 to September 9th, 2017 inclusive (mainly offered by Marktkauf and EDEKA).
  • "Salami Sticks" in the 100g package and the designation "Jean Luc" with the best before dates September 8th, 2017 and September 9th, 2017 (offered by Netto Marken-Discount in parts of Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia).
  • "Air-dried Mini-Salamis Classic" in a 100g package and the name "Gut Bartenhof" with the best before date September 8, 2017 (offered by Norma).

According to the manufacturer, only the products marked DE EV 1277 EG and the above-mentioned best before dates, which are printed on the back of the packaging, are affected. Customers who have already purchased the relevant products can return them to their shops for a refund of the purchase price - even without presenting the receipt. (fp)
