After daisies: ginger named medicinal plant 2018
In parts of Asia, ginger has been used not only in the kitchen for millennia, but also as a cure for diseases. In this country, too, the "miracle bulb" is becoming increasingly popular. Now the root has been named medicinal plant of 2018.

For the treatment of numerous diseases
Ginger is known to many people in this country above all as an ingredient for pumpkin soup, as a component of various Thai curries, in the inlaid version with sushi and in tea or smoothie. The root with the fruity-spicy note is not only very tasty, but also extremely healthy. In Asia, the "miracle bulb" has been used to treat numerous diseases for thousands of years. Now ginger has been named medicinal plant of the year 2018 in Germany.

Ginger is the medicinal plant 2018
The ginger (Zingiber officinale) is the medicinal plant 2018. This was announced by the naturopathic association NHV Theophrastus on the occasion of the medicinal herbs symposium in Panschwitz-Kuckau in Saxony.

The first chairman of the association, Konrad Jungnickel, said in a message: "Above all, we want to make the medicinal effects of this spice common in Asian cuisine better known."

According to the NHV Theophrastus, it is committed to disseminating naturopathic ideas among young and old. Since 2003 he has been elected "Medicinal Plant of the Year". In 2017 it is the daisy (Bellis perennis).

Antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic
In its native Asia, ginger has been used medicinally for thousands of years. It has an antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. This is partly scientifically proven.

For example, US scientists from the University of Georgia have found that ginger is effective against muscle pain after excessive exercise.

In addition, researchers from the University of Miami were able to demonstrate a pain-relieving effect in osteoarthritis in a study.

Hildegard von Bingen and Paracelsus already knew and used it in gastrointestinal complaints in medieval Europe. Modern studies confirm this application, as does the effectiveness in the case of motion sickness.

For colds and digestive problems
In natural medicine, ginger has long been used against high blood lipid levels. Furthermore, the root is often used for colds.

For example, you can peel a thumb-sized piece of ginger bulb, cut it into thin slices and pour a cup of boiling water over it. Such a hot ginger tea can strengthen the immune system.

Ginger is also popular as a home remedy for bloating. The tuber works with digestive problems, diarrhea, loss of appetite and numerous other complaints.

Furthermore, ginger is rich in vitamins and minerals and can help you lose weight. However, people with a sensitive stomach could have problems with larger amounts, not everyone can tolerate the sharpness. Affected people should ask their doctor for advice if necessary. (ad)
