It doesn't depend on the sport
According to the "Nord-Trøndelag" study published years ago in the journal "Human Reproduction", too much exercise should make women sterile.

According to the Norwegian study, in which 3,887 participants took part, slim women who exercise five to seven times a week are 3.2 times more likely to have fertility problems, reports the portal "MeineFitness.net", which claims to be nine international Evaluated studies and spoke to medical professionals.

The longer the training takes, the higher the risk. Studies have shown that over 60 minutes of continuous training are bad for women's fertility.

Obese women benefit from exercise

But why do obese women benefit from sport, but not slim ones? Miss Dr. Wibke Wilkening, specialist for gynecology and obstetrics explains the reduced fertility with a change in the hormones:

“Increased physical activity can have a negative impact on the hormonal axis between the brain, pituitary and ovary. In pronounced cases, the secretion comes to a complete standstill and the cycle does not occur, ”says the expert.

Do not train too often and not to exhaustion
However, it is not necessarily the sport itself that influences fertility, but the increased, but not covered, energy requirement:

"It is a well-known phenomenon that the body first shuts down the reproductive function and finally switches off below a - certainly individually different - minimum weight in the sense of self-preservation," explained Dr. Wilkening according to the portal.

And further: "Pregnancy is a stressful and energy-consuming state for an organism, which the body can no longer afford with minimal care, be it due to an eating disorder or increased consumption through massive exercise."

On "MeineFitness.net" there are a few tips for women that should help to avoid exposing yourself to increased risk: Do not train yourself to absolute exhaustion. Exercise no more than three times a week and no more than 60 minutes a day.
