Lotus Biscoff Spread Crunchy recalled for suspected metal particles
If food is contaminated in the course of production, this can pose a considerable risk for consumers. If contamination is suspected, a corresponding product recall is therefore advisable. For example, the manufacturer of the spread "Lotus Biscoff Crunchy" has started a recall campaign for the spread after potential contamination with metal particles had become known.

The manufacturer Lotus Bakeries is recalling the product "Lotus Biscoff Spread Crunchy" because of possible contamination with small metal particles. This was distributed in almost all federal states. The spread with a best-before date in February 2018 is affected. The manufacturer strongly advises against eating the spread. Lotus Bakeries said the product could be returned to the point of sale for a refund of the purchase price.

Affected products with a best before date in February 2018
According to the manufacturer, only the "Lotus Biscoff Spread Crunchy" with the following batch numbers and expiry dates is affected: batch L7005109 and best before date February 05, 2018, batch L7005309 with best before date February 05, 2018, batch L7011209 with best before date February 11, 2018, batch L7023309 with best-before date February 23, 2018 and batch L7030309 with best-before date February 28, 2018. The spread is easily recognizable by its yellow cover, on which the best-before date is also attached.

Spread was offered in almost all federal states
The spread was sold in the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia. Only the spread with the stated best-before dates and the yellow lid is affected. Lotus Biscoff spread with red lid fully meets the quality criteria.

Metal detector set too imprecise
According to the manufacturer, the recall is due to the fact that a co-packer, who was responsible for filling, found that the setting of the metal detector was not precise in the period mentioned. It cannot therefore be excluded that there are metal particles in the spread. Anyone who has bought one of the glasses will get their money back. The manufacturer Lotus Bakeries apologizes in a corresponding press release to all consumers for the inconvenience. (fp)
