A combination of whole grains and fruit favors flatulence
If you want to eat healthy, you should eat a lot of fruit. Whole grain products also contribute to a healthy diet. For some people, however, this combination is not advisable. Because these foods promote gas formation in the stomach and lead to bloating.

Flatulence from certain foods
Health experts, such as the German Nutrition Society (DGE), recommend eating fruit every day. Whole grain products are also part of a healthy diet, after all, the hardly treated grain contains a lot of fiber, vitamins, oils and minerals. People who are prone to flatulence should avoid the combination of fruits and whole grains.

Five servings of fruit and vegetables every day
Nutrition experts repeatedly point out how important plant-based food is for our health. New findings are always being gained in scientific studies. Studies indicate that fruits and vegetables keep the heart healthy.

In addition, it has long been known that the higher the vegetable and fruit consumption, the lower the risk of suffering a stroke or heart attack. It should be at least five servings a day.

Last but not least, certain plant substances in fruits and vegetables help you lose weight, as researchers have found.

Whole grains prevent various diseases
Whole grains are also healthy: Scientists at the "Harvard Medical School" in the USA reported that whole grains can prevent diabetes.

In addition, the numerous fibers it contains can stimulate digestion and prevent constipation.

And Imperial College London researchers wrote in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) that people who eat a lot of whole grains are at less risk of developing serious diseases such as cancer or cardiovascular diseases.

Last but not least, high-fiber diets can help against permanent hunger and thus protect against obesity.

Slow change in diet
However, the healthy mix of whole grains and fruits can also cause physical discomfort, such as flatulence. Because the combination of fiber and sugar promotes gas formation in the stomach.

In the "Apotheken Umschau" (edition A1 / 2017) people with sensitive stomach and intestines are advised not to eat high-fiber foods such as whole grains together with sugary foods. The latter also includes fruit and fruit juices.

For people who have had the experience of experiencing bloating more frequently when they have eaten whole grains, it is generally advisable to change their diet slowly, in which fiber is gradually incorporated into the menu.

If you still experience symptoms, teas with fennel, anise or caraway and other home remedies can help with flatulence. (ad)
