Recall: Listeria in sausage from the organic butcher Landfrau
The Öko-Metzgerei Landfrau has started a recall of three types of sausage. Listeria may be included in the products. These germs can lead to health problems. The company asks consumers not to consume the affected goods.
Three types of sausage could be contaminated with germs
The Landfrau eco-butcher recalls three of his sausages. As the company explains on its website, the pathogen "Listeria Monocytogenes" was found in a routine check carried out by an independent laboratory for the product "beer ham" (cut and packaged). Because the "lamb salami" and the "smoked turkey breast" were cut and packaged on the same plant on the same day, it cannot be ruled out that they were contaminated.

Affected are the "beer ham" (batch number 16444) and the "turkey breast smoked" (batch number 16445) with best-before dates from 15.11.2016 to 5.12.2016 and the "lamb salami" (batch number 16373) with best-before dates from 10.12.2016 to 24.12.2016. "Please do not consume these articles anymore," the company writes.
“Landfrau” is the in-house butcher's shop of the Munich Court Pfisterei. The affected products were sold in branches of this bakery and at selected dealers in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
Goods can also be returned without a receipt
Customers can return the affected products to their shopping mall without reimbursement of the purchase price or in exchange for new goods without presenting the receipt.
The goods were taken off the market after the finds. In addition, "the responsible authorities were informed immediately," said Nicole Stocker, owner and managing director of the two companies.
First death reports
In recent times there have been several reports of evidence of pathogens in food. The first deaths from listeria were even reported in the summer.
Listeria can cause so-called “listeriosis” in humans. The condition can cause flu-like symptoms such as vomiting, muscle pain, diarrhea and fever.
The pathogens can be dangerous for pregnant women
The disease usually takes a harmless course in healthy adults, but it can be dangerous for pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and people with poor immune defense and can lead to blood poisoning, inflammation of the brain or meninges, for example. The risk of premature birth or miscarriage increases in pregnant women.
Avoid certain foods
According to the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), risk persons should, among other things, not eat raw animal foods (such as Mett) to protect themselves. You should also avoid smoked or marinated fish products and raw milk cheese.
"In addition, consumers can use simple kitchen hygiene rules to avoid contamination of ready-to-eat food with listeria and the multiplication of the pathogen in the food," says the BfR. (Ad)
