Action to legalize cannabis
At the beginning of the Oktoberfest, the Munich branch of the German Hemp Association (DHV) distributed free hop cones in small transparent bags. Like the cannabis plant, this "real hop" also comes from the "Cannabaceae" family, the hemp family. This kinship should be explained to the hop-enthusiastic visitors to the Oktoberfest in order to generally reduce fears of hemp plants.
The hop blossoms can be used as a legal drug to make a soothing tea or to brew beer. In contrast to cannabis flowers, nobody has to fear being criminalized because of this.
The group of volunteer activists, founded in spring 2015, would like to use the campaign to point out how differently these related plants are handled legally. For example, while a full beer cellar is basically unpunished, possession of a small joint or a single hemp plant in Bavaria can lead to a house search. The taxpayer bears most of the four-digit costs of these persecution measures. However, it does not consume less.
Micha Greif, spokesman for the Munich local branch of the German Hemp Association, makes it clear: “The cannabis ban is useless, expensive and has failed. A controlled sale, on the other hand, enables youth and consumer protection, creates jobs and would easily generate 2 billion euros in additional tax revenue in Germany. ”
Georg Wurth, Managing Director of the German Hemp Association, welcomes the action: “We wish the visitors of the Oktoberfest a lot of fun and a relaxed time. The same freedom you enjoy should also apply to cannabis users in Germany. Penalties and criminalization only hurt! ”
Another information stand is planned for Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The location is in front of the former XXL Lutz furniture (Theresienhöhe 5, 80339 Munich). It also provides information about cannabis as a medicine, regenerative material and as a food and beverage. On the occasion of the Oktoberfest, the information stands have the motto: "Hops and hemp are related - the German hemp association wishes you a lot of fun".
