Australian scientists have investigated whether the consumption of fruit and vegetables has an impact on the mood. They come to the conclusion that consuming fruits and vegetables can actually make you happier. At least, this applies to people who have previously eaten little or no vegetables and fruit.
The Australian scientists evaluated the data from around 12,000 Australians to investigate the relationship between mental well-being and certain foods. To do this, they analyzed the subjects' nutrition diaries from 2007 to 2009. The participants included: asked how often they ate fruit and vegetables a week and in what amounts. In addition, participants were asked to rate satisfaction with their lives on a 1-10 scale. The “satisfaction average” was 7.91.
It was shown that an increase from the lowest level of fruit and vegetable consumption to the highest level resulted in an increase in satisfaction of 0.24 "life satisfaction points". According to the study authors, this roughly corresponds to the positive effect of finding a job again after a period of unemployment. You can find out more about the study here.
