Health risks from germs: Always boil raw milk
Milk-fresh milk from the farm is becoming increasingly popular and can often be tapped directly from a raw milk dispenser. However, the milk should be boiled before drinking to prevent health risks from germs.
Milk: healthy or harmful?
The question of whether milk is healthy or harmful has been a hot topic among experts for years. After milk has long been considered a healthy food, studies have appeared that indicate that the drink may favor diseases such as asthma or diabetes. Other studies, however, came to the conclusion: milk is healthy. In any case, it provides calcium, fat and protein and, in smaller quantities, also vitamins. However, one should be careful with raw milk.
Always boil raw milk before drinking
Researchers at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU) reported only a few months ago in the journal "Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology" that raw milk is good protection against asthma in children. But this should always be boiled before drinking. The farmers' association Landvolk Niedersachsen has pointed this out. This is the only way to reliably kill germs that can cause diarrhea. Small children, pregnant women, the elderly and sick people in particular can be susceptible to these pathogens.
Consuming untreated milk can make you sick
The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) also recently pointed out that the consumption of untreated milk can lead to serious illnesses. Raw milk is often available to buy directly on the farm or can be bottled in so-called milk filling stations in rural regions. As the farmers' association Landvolk Niedersachsen reports on its website, "the farmer must clearly and legibly put the note" raw milk, boil before consumption "at the delivery point. The raw milk may only be released on the day of production and on the following day. Continuous cooling must be ensured. ”(Ad)
