Eggs are obviously healthier than expected

Eggs have long been suspected of increasing cholesterol in the human body, but recent research has led many health professionals to move away from such warnings.

The positive ingredients are often emphasized: chicken eggs contain important proteins and valuable minerals such as iron and zinc and vitamins A, E and K.

According to a new study, the daily breakfast egg is even healthier than previously thought.

As the British-Chinese research team reports, the “moderate consumption of eggs” in a long-term study of half a million Chinese people was associated with a lower incidence of heart diseases.

The results of the scientists led by Professor Liming Li and Dr. Beijing University Health Science Center's Canqing Yu was recently published in the journal Heart.

Lower risk of cardiovascular diseases

According to a report by Science Daily, the researchers used data from a study in which around half a million Chinese between the ages of 30 and 79 had been examined over a period of almost nine years.

The analysis of the results showed that the daily consumption of an egg was associated with a "lower risk of cardiovascular diseases".

In addition, daily egg consumers were 26 percent less likely to have a hemorrhagic stroke.

No firm conclusions about cause and effect

However, the journal “Science Daily” also points out that the examination was an observational study, so that no firm conclusions can be drawn about the cause and effect.

The authors nevertheless concluded: "The present study finds that there is a connection between moderate egg consumption (up to 1 egg / day) and a lower cardiac event rate."

And, "Our results provide scientific evidence of the egg eating guidelines for a healthy Chinese adult."

Appeal and criticism

Cardiovascular diseases, which cost 17.7 million lives each year, are the leading cause of death worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to the experts, cardiovascular diseases cause almost a third (31 percent) of all deaths worldwide each year.

The study by researchers from Great Britain and China was also well received by colleagues from other countries.

According to "CNN", Caroline Richard, assistant professor of agricultural and environmental sciences at the University of Alberta in Edmonton (Canada), said that the new study delivers "a message similar to that of her own evaluations, according to which" eating eggs is a risk cardiovascular disease not increased ”.

However, there is evidence that consuming eggs could increase the risk of diabetes.

"In this study, they did not assess the risk of developing diabetes, which could be because diabetes is a recent disease in the Chinese population and there is no good documentation of who has it," said Richard.
