New therapy for chronic pain

Electrostimulation stops chronic pain: five common questions about the new SFMS therapy
Although pain is considered a life-saving warning signal from the body, it sends out constantly faulty alarm signals for more than three months, when experts speak of a so-called chronic pain syndrome. This disease is no longer related to the actual cause of the pain. For many sufferers, a lengthy treatment procedure begins, which often does not lead to the desired success. As a result, patients increasingly suffer from the massive limitations of their everyday lives, which often put additional psychological strain on them. Remedy is provided by modern SFMS technology, targeted electrical stimulation based on so-called small fiber matrix stimulation, so that patients can return to an active and symptom-free life - without surgery and medication.

“With the help of a specially developed pain band, targeted electronic impulses are sent that permanently reduce the symptoms,” says Dr. Tobias Weigl, doctor, pain expert and managing director of Bomedus GmbH. In the following, the doctor answers the five most important questions about the innovative band.

1. How does the pain band work?

"In chronic conditions, the brain stores recurring symptoms in the affected region in the so-called 'pain memory'. The new SFMS therapy is a suitable option to normalize this constant overactivity. Patients wear a textile band twice a day at the affected area. There are fine polyamide threads on the inside. They direct current stimuli to the pain fibers directly under the skin and 'overwrite' the misdirected nerve stimuli. The wearer regulates the corresponding intensity via a remote control. "

2. For which regions of the body is the tape suitable?

“In particular, typical pain regions such as the back, neck, knees and elbows can be treated with SFMS therapy. The size-adjustable band not only remedies classic neck pain, it also relieves chronic muscular tension and reduces pain caused by herniated discs, spinal canal stenosis, rheumatic complaints, meniscal damage and arthrosis and even so-called phantom and stump pain after amputations. "

3. How long does the treatment take?

“Thanks to the short applications of two times 20 minutes a day, the therapy can be carried out comfortably at home and integrated individually into everyday life. The morning and evening hours are particularly suitable for effective treatment. A combination of relaxation and targeted physical exercises also has a positive effect on the therapy. It is important to use the stimulation regularly and until the pain in the affected region of the body subsides. After about four to six weeks, patients feel up to 70 percent less pain. However, those affected should not exceed stimulation more than four times a day. As a rule, we recommend reducing SFMS therapy to one application per day after about six months. ”

4. Who should not use SFMS therapy?

“Patients with cardiac arrhythmias or electronic implants such as pacemakers, neurostimulators or a medication pump should refrain from SFMS treatment. Electrostimulation is also out of the question for pregnant women and nursing mothers. If there are skin irritations or diseases such as eczema, burns and open wounds in the area of application, the tape should also not be used. "

5. Do health insurance companies cover the costs?

"In many cases, health insurance companies and professional associations cover the full cost of over € 599. Our company also offers options to test the therapy individually in advance. Interested parties pay a one-off fee of 199.90 euros for the textile strap, which is excluded from exchange for hygienic reasons. Interested parties then rent the associated control unit for 24.90 euros per month. If you decide to use the device at the end of the six-month loan period, the previous monthly payments will be offset against the remaining purchase price. Payment in installments is also possible.
