Use of stretching gymnastics
In many sports, stretching is part of the training process. The muscles are put under tension, which improves mobility and agility and a recovery effect. Stretching the affected muscle can also help with cramps. Stretching is also used in physiotherapy to counteract shortened muscles or to correct or mitigate the consequences of an injury.
When and how often should you do stretching exercises?
Doctors, scientists and sports therapists do not agree on when and how to stretch properly during sports. Stretching before sport is particularly controversial, as the risk of injury being reduced has not yet been sufficiently demonstrated. Experts are also divided about the effects of stretching exercises on sore muscles. Overall, however, stretching is a useful addition, especially after exercise, when used correctly. (vb)
