Champagne is an alcoholic beverage that is made similarly to, for example, sparkling wine based on grapes. However, only grapes from the Champagne wine region in France may be used. The champagne is then extracted from these in special fermentation processes. It is considered a particularly festive drink and is offered at correspondingly high prices.
Positive effects on the brain
From a health point of view, the reports of a preventive effect of champagne against degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's or dementia have caused a sensation. Scientists at the University of Reading in the UK had determined the positive effects of the phenolic acids it contained on brain performance in mice. However, it should not be forgotten that champagne contains alcohol, which, if consumed excessively, can cause health damage. (fp)
