Until its merger with BKK Gesundheit and BKK Axel Springer in 2012, the DAK (German Employee Health Insurance Fund) was an independent statutory health insurance company. Since then, the health insurance companies have been called DAK-Gesundheit and a number of other health insurance companies such as BKK Beiersdorf AG have merged with them. Today, DAK-Gesundheit has almost six million insured persons, making it one of the largest statutory health insurers in Germany. Every year, the health insurance company publishes various reports on health care in Germany, such as the DAK nursing report or DAK health report, which, given their representative status, attract a lot of attention and allow statements to be made about general developments.
